How?
A subscription service for authors that for a very low price ($1/month) gives the readers access to all the books the author has already written. Other facets are can include:
1. Sneak peeks at new books.
2. An online (and offline) community of like-minded people sharing their thoughts.
3. A communication channel for and to the author.
The point is not so much to make a profit out of this monthly fee, as much as to build a community of raving fans that can be monetized by other means like selling special editions, swag, etc.

Why?
If these potential advertisers see that you have many fans that also like their brand, they might advertise with you. Good for you and your fans.
How?
Have a constant voting section on your website where your fans can vote for any of the brands you list there, and also suggest a new brand to include in the list.
